Benchmark methodology

In brief

The IndexChex indexing benchmark is measured weekly on recurring URL sets and published as four averages. Each metric has a fixed definition: indexation rate per submitted URL within a stated window, time to first Googlebot crawl, and checker accuracy as the share of correct verdicts. Sample sizes and weekly series are not published.

What is published

The method behind the IndexChex weekly indexing benchmark is published at the level of detail below and no further. Statements outside this list are not made on this site.

  • The measured tool is IndexChex, and IndexChex runs the measurement.
  • Measurement is weekly.
  • The URLs measured are recurring URL sets, reused across weeks.
  • Results are published as averages, current as of October 2026.
  • Two submission modes are measured separately: standard and instant.

Metric definitions

Each metric is defined so that two people reading it would compute the same number from the same data.

Instant-mode indexation rate

Definition: the number of URLs submitted in instant mode that are found indexed within 10 minutes of submission, divided by the number of URLs submitted in instant mode, averaged over the measurement period.

Published value: 95%+, with indexing observed within 5 to 10 minutes. Detail on the instant-mode page.

Standard-mode indexation rate

Definition: the number of URLs submitted in standard mode that are found indexed once the job has run its course, divided by the number of URLs submitted in standard mode, for typical sites, links and citations.

Published value: 85%+. The product timeline puts the end state at about day 5 after submission. Detail on the standard-mode page.

Time to first Googlebot crawl

Definition: the elapsed time from the moment a URL is submitted to the first recorded fetch of that URL by Googlebot, averaged across submitted URLs.

Published value: under 2 minutes, in both standard and instant mode. Detail on the first-crawl page.

Index checker accuracy

Definition: the number of index-check verdicts (indexed or not indexed) that agree with the true index state of the URL, divided by the total number of verdicts.

Published value: about 96%. Detail on the checker accuracy page.

How indexation is detected

The checker looks up each URL in live Google results using four query forms: the bare URL, the URL in quotes, site: followed by the URL, and inurl: followed by the URL. If the URL appears for any of them it is counted as indexed. This is a public-results test. It does not read Google Search Console data, which is only available to verified owners of a site and is therefore unavailable for most backlinks.

A consequence worth knowing: a URL that Google has folded into a different canonical will usually not appear for these queries and is counted as not indexed, which matches what matters for a backlink.

What is not published

The following details have not been released. They are listed so that readers do not assume them.

DetailStatus
Number of URLs per weekly setNot published
Composition of the sets (link types, source domains)Not published
Week-by-week valuesNot published; only current averages
Variance, ranges or confidence intervalsNot published
Per-URL-type breakdownsNot published
How ground truth for checker accuracy is establishedNot published

Without sample sizes and spread, the figures support statements about the average only. They do not say how often a given job will fall short of the average, and no such claim is made here.

Running a comparable test

The most reliable way to evaluate any indexer, including IndexChex, is to measure it on your own URLs. The outline below is expanded step by step in how to benchmark an indexer yourself.

  1. Pick URLs you can verify are crawlable and indexable: no noindex, not blocked by robots.txt, self-canonical.
  2. Check them before submitting and drop any already indexed.
  3. Split them at random into a submitted group and an unsubmitted control group.
  4. Submit the first group and record the submission time.
  5. Check both groups at fixed points, for example 10 minutes, 24 hours, 72 hours and 5 days.
  6. Report indexed divided by submitted at each point, for each group, alongside the group sizes.

The control group is what separates the tool's effect from Google finding the pages on its own. Owners of the source site can cross-check a sample with the URL Inspection tool in Search Console. Terms used in these steps are collected in indexing metrics defined, and the pitfalls of reading other people's rates are covered in how to read indexing-rate claims.

Corrections

If a published figure changes, the new value replaces the old one with its date. Errors can be reported to support@indexchex.com, as described on the about page.

FAQ

Is the methodology independent?

No. IndexChex measures its own product and publishes the result. The method is described so readers can judge it and run a comparable test themselves.

Why are sample sizes not published?

They have not been released. This page states the gap instead of estimating it, and readers should treat the figures as averages with unknown spread.

How is a URL judged indexed?

By the IndexChex index checker, which queries live Google results with the bare URL, the quoted URL, a site: query and an inurl: query. A match on any of the four counts as indexed.
